Do you ever wonder why we do what we do at Mass? Have you ever found yourself thinking…
How does Father choose the color of his outfits at Mass?
Why do we ring the bells sometimes?
Why can’t everyone receive Communion?
Why does Mass sometimes feel repetitive?
You’re not alone. Or, maybe you haven’t asked these questions because you’ve found Mass a little too boring to notice? Join us for a special Deconstructed Mass — a unique evening where Father will celebrate a regular Mass, but we’ll pause along the way to explain what’s happening and why it matters. When we understand WHAT is happening during the Mass, we can experience it differently.
This night is different than our normal youth night—but don’t let that stop you! Here are some key differences:
While our content will be targeted to our youth ministry (8th-12th) graders, it is open to all parishioners. We will have a special section in the front of the Church just for our youth group but all parishioners and families are welcome to attend and sit outside of the reserved area.
Our Mass will take place at Church of the Holy Family—not at our normal St. Columba location. After Mass all members of the youth ministry will be invited downstairs for a brief period of pizza and fellowship (but please be sure to sign your teen up using the form below so we have enough pizza).
In order to ensure that we observe fasting before Mass, Our youth ministry pizza will be served after Mass around 7:45/8:00. So, we encourage all teens to eat late in the afternoon (leaving the proper hour of fasting before mass) so you’re not hungry.
Parishioners, parents and families are invited to attend. However, because this is our youth night geared toward teens, we invite parents to sit outside the area reserved for teens and with an understanding that our content will be geared toward our teen parishioners. Members of our youth ministry core team will be on hand to help guide you.
This event does satisfy the weekly Mass obligation.
We encourage all teens who ever had a question about “why we do” something at Mass to submit it below when you RSVP.
Please RSVP by Thursday 3/12 so that we have enough pizza and food for all teens.
This event fulfills the youth group requirement for the Confirmation Program
Note: Diocesan Safe Environment certified adults will be on hand to ensure compliance with Safe Environment protocols.
